Update: City Council Approves Fiber Optic Poles at Sugar Hollow Reservoir
Charlottesville City Council is expected to vote on whether or not three fiber optic poles should be placed near Sugar Hollow Reservoir.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesville City Council has approved an easement to allow new improvements at the Sugar Hollow Dam and Reservoir at its meeting on Monday, July 2.
The Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority wanted to have the poles installed to improve the cell signal at the dam control station.
This will allow the RWSA to remotely control the water levels by raising and lowering the wall when water levels are abnormal.
"It's just an easement so Century Link can go in there, place two or three new poles, and then string the fiber optics to the polls to connect to the dam," says Katie McIlwee of the RWSA.
RWSA hopes to have the poles installed by the end of the summer.
