CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesville City Council will be providing the Dewberry Hotel 75 parking spaces once the project completed.

Councilors made their decision during their meeting Monday, November 20.

Spaces at the Water Street Parking Garage will be set aside for 40 years for the future guests of the hotel. Developer John Dewberry's hotel is currently scheduled to be completed before 2020.

According to Virginia law, the city is required to advertise the spots for public bidding due to the lease being longer than five years.

Since 2009, the Dewberry Hotel has sat abandoned on Charlottesville's Downtown Mall. It was previously known as the Landmark Hotel.
