CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Rodney Redd has been named the new Athletic and Activities Director at Charlottesville High School.

Redd takes over for Larry Mangino, who joined the UVa basketball program as director of scouting and recruiting.

“Let me start by saying that Charlottesville City Schools is a destination, not a stopover,” said Redd.  “I hope to be here for a long time and while I feel very fortunate and blessed to have this opportunity, I am ready to get to work for this community and focus on students and their families.”

Redd brings fifteen years of experience in education and athletics, both at the collegiate and high school level.

He was a four-year letter-winner and captain of the football team at North Carolina State University.

After graduating from NC State, Redd moved to Charlottesville where he began his career.

Redd's coaching experience includes, football, boys' and girls' basketball, girls' lacrosse, and track and field.

“We’re delighted to have Mr. Redd join the team at CHS,” said principal Eric Irizarry. “He brings a broad range of experience in coaching and sports administration that will make a real contribution to our program.”
