ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - The child pornography case against a long-time University of Virginia faculty member is being pushed to a later date.
Seventy-two-year-old Walter Francis Korte Jr. is charged with two counts of possessing child pornography. The film studies professor has been on administrative leave since his arrest on August 2.
An Albemarle Juvenile and Domestics Relations Court judge granted a continuance Monday, September 26. Korte is currently a patient at the UVA Medical Center.
Police say the investigation started on July 29. Investigators searched Korte's office in Bryan Hall, as well as his home on Fosters Branch Road in Albemarle County. Search warrants in the case are sealed, so NBC29 is unable to report what investigators found.
NBC29 has learned Korte was released on bond September 6, and was then involved in an attempted suicide two days later in Albemarle County.
Korte was listed as being in serious condition on September 15. Since then, the UVA Medical Center has restricted any further information on his current condition.
Korte is due back in court on October 24.
