ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - A unique, two day dog competition in Crozet invites one particular breed to test their skills to the max.

The Bernese Mountain Dog Club of central Virginia holds the competition that includes several courses and challenges.

It pays tribute to the dog breed's particular background in Switzerland. Owners say training the dogs for these kinds of trials can be tricky.

"We take baby steps. So that they understand what the harness is going to do. Then slowly, we put them in the cart so that they understand the cart is behind him and that's okay. It takes anywhere between six months to a year," said Dan Lynn, the coordinator the competition.

The event requires planning a year ahead in advance. It's one of the only competitions of its kind in the state.
