CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - People who run small companies are learning how to do business with the University of Virginia.

The Procurement and Supplier Diversity Services Department hosted a vendor training session at the university Wednesday morning.

The university has a lot of areas where small business can step in and fill a need.

"What folks don't realize is there's a huge administrative effort to running an institution. And so, we have buildings all over grounds that need furniture and need to have the interior designed, and so we use services of interior designers to design and lay out the building that we're putting the furniture in,” said John McHugh, who teaches the training session.

People who attended also got advice on how to compete with larger businesses.
