CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A special blood drive with a fun theme returned to Charlottesville Sunday for the fifth year in a row.

It was a “Tailgate and Donate” event for the Silver Lining Blood Drive at Saint Anne's Belfield School (STAB). The drive is held in honor of Becky Silver, a parent volunteer at STAB who passed away four years ago from leukemia.

Becky’s husband and event organizer Lee Silver says his wife was deeply involved in activities at the school.

“My kids went here for their entire education and she just, immersed herself in the school and anything that involved the kids and anything that involved St. Anne's Belfield," said Silver.

Silver says the drive was rebranded a few years ago with a NFL theme because his wife loved football.

Organizers say they planned to raise 200 units of blood which is half of one day’s blood supply.
