CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Charlottesville police have charged a woman with DUI after a crash that seriously injured another driver. 

Police say on October 17 at around 1 p.m., Delena Hallett, 44, ran a stop sign on Elliott Avenue at South 1st Street.  Her truck hit a Ford Escape. 

Both Hallett and the driver of the Escape were taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center. Police say the driver of the Escape suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Hallett is being held at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail.

Statement from Charlottesville Police Department:

Hallett’s arrest is related to an accident that occurred on 10/17/2015 at approximately 1:05 p.m. in the 200 block of Elliott Avenue at South 1st Street. 

Hallett was operating a 2005 Ford truck that struck a Ford Escape. The Ford Escape was traveling towards Ridge St on Elliott Ave when Hallett’s vehicle, which was on South 1st St traveling towards Elliott, ran the stop sign at Elliot Ave and South 1St St and struck the Ford Escape. Both Hallett and the driver of the Ford Escape were transported to the UVA emergency room for treatment. 

Hallett was charged with Driving Under the Influence (Va Code 18.2-266) and a warrant for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (Va Code 18.2-102,F) was obtained. 

Upon follow up, the investigating officer was informed that the driver of the Ford Escape sustained serious injuries from the crash. Additional warrants for While DUI Cause Serious Bodily Injury (Va Code 18.2-51.4) and Driving After Forfeiture of License (Va Code 18.2-272) were obtained.

Hallett is currently being held at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail.
