CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A public housing neighborhood in Charlottesville hosted a celebration for the community Saturday.

The 17th Annual Westhaven Community Day introduced people to dozens of organizations offering services to the community. University of Virginia family doctors also provided free check-ups for children as they prepare to go back to school.

"Sometimes community members feel left out of the mainstream, and I feel that this is a wonderful opportunity to bring the people from the outside into the community to help insure that community grows and that the community is successful and that the needs of the community are met through the different vendors that we have here today," says Wendy Cooper, volunteer coordinator.

More than 70 volunteers helped put the celebration together for the Westhaven neighborhood.
