From May 25 through the 31st, items like batteries, flashlights, bottled water and even generators are exempt from sales tax in Virginia.

The Lowe's store in Albemarle County says it's happy to help customers out during hurricane season.

"We'll be monitoring the hurricane season, and we'll actually extend tax free holiday as well a couple of times during the next few months," said Caleb Einwechter, assistant store manager.

During National Hurricane Preparedness Week, families are encouraged to use these tax-free items to build an emergency kit and plan for what to do in heavy rainfall, inland flooding or tornadoes.
