Months of roadwork and detours in downtown Waynesboro may have some wondering if there's an end in sight. Now, city planners say they're finally almost done.

Thursday, crews put the last layer of asphalt on Main Street. City planner Michael Barnes says this is it for the major road closures for Waynesboro's Downtown Streetscape Project improving the downtown.

"It's really nice. We've been getting lots of compliments. A lot of people are really excited about the way the new streets look and the way the downtown is really progressing forward,” Barnes said.

Barnes says there will be a little bit more concrete work and line painting, but work should be finished mid-January.
