The American Shakespeare Center in Staunton has another reason to put on a show. The co-founder and the organization were recently honored for outstanding efforts in Shakespeare education.

The Shakespeare Steward Award, sponsored by the Folger Shakespeare Library, is a big honor for everyone involved in the center and it's also helpful in building relationships and partnering up with other noteworthy theaters.

Ralph Alan Cohen accepted the award at the end of the Blackfriars Conference, which attracted actors and scholars of Shakespeare from all over the states and world to the American Shakespeare Center in October.

"When he got up, I thought, I bet I know what this is! This is the Shakespeare Steward Award! And he gave it to Ralph and that was a great, great end to the conference for all of us,” said Sarah Enloe, director of education at the American Shakespeare Center.

The organization that sponsors the award houses one of the biggest collections of early modern literature.

The Chicago Shakespeare Theater won the award last year.
