Despite rain showers, hundreds of runners still came out for a fun race in Albemarle County Saturday.

Virginia Discovery Museum's 23rd Annual Discovery Dash, held on the Monticello High School track, was for runners between the ages of three and 12.

Volunteers were on-hand to teach the kids about the importance of physical fitness.

Amy Wicks-Horn of the Virginia Discovery Museum said, "One of the things we really appreciate is that the Charlottesville Track Club and Ragged Mountain Running [shop] help teach children the etiquette of running, the importance of stretching, the importance of being physically active every single day and it really sets children up for success for the rest of their lives."

The dash raises about $10,000 for the museum, which is located on Charlottesville's downtown mall.
