University of Virginia Police Investigate Stolen Ambulance
University of Virginia police are looking for the individual responsible for stealing an ambulance from outside the emergency room just before 4 a.m. this Wednesday morning.
Police say the driver left the ambulance unlocked with the engine running when someone hopped behind the wheel, drove it a couple of blocks, and abandoned it on Roosevelt Brown Boulevard.
"An ambulance is not a small vehicle, and it's not a very discrete vehicle. And it could be that it wasn't a premeditated event, it just happened by opportunity and wasn't very well thought out," said Lieutenant Melissa Fielding of the UVA Police Department.
Police say they are pursuing "very positive" leads and expect a quick resolution in the investigation.
