Police Report Ruptured Gas Line as Cause of Rt. 29 Car Fire
A car fire slowed traffic at the intersection of Hydraulic Road and Route 29 in Charlottesville around 10:00 Saturday morning.
Charlottesville police say a ruptured gas line in a white BMW caused the car to catch fire. The man driving the car was not injured.
Both Charlottesville and Albemarle police were on scene to keep traffic moving. Firefighters put out the flames with a compressed air foam system, or CAFS.
It took about an hour for crews to safely remove the car from the road and reopen all the traffic lanes.
