Watch Live: UVA’s memorial service for shooting victims

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WWBT) - A formal memorial service to honor the lives of Lavel Davis, Devin Chandler and D’Sean Perry is planned for Saturday, Nov. 19, at John Paul Jones Arena at 3:30 p.m.

The event is open to the public and will also be live-streamed at www.virginia.edu. You can also watch below:

UVA says the event will continue despite a threatening email mid-day.

Doors at the arena will open at 2 p.m. and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Overflow seating will be available at Klöckner Stadium and in Old Cabell Hall Auditorium.

A clear bag policy will be in effect at all three locations and all guests will be screened. Walk-through and hand-held metal detectors will be the primary means of screening. Click here for more information about the policy.

Parking will be available in the John Paul Jones Arena parking lot and garage, the West Lot (across the street from the arena), the Emmet/Ivy Parking Garage, and the Scott Stadium parking lots.

The University Transit Service will operate its normal fare-free weekend routes throughout Grounds. The arena is served by the Gold Line and Silver Line.

A live broadcast of the ceremony will also be shown at Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church at 105 Lankford Ave.

On Wednesday, UVA president James Ryan released a video with new information about the tragic Sunday shooting and the steps they’re taking to move forward.

Ryan also announced UVA is inviting an external review concerning the university’s interactions with the suspect, 22-year-old Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. In the video, Ryan says the process will likely take a while, but any new information they get will be shared.

“It’s possible and perhaps likely that we will never find one single thing that will explain this,” said Ryan. “It may also be that we never truly understand why this happened. But what we learn, we will share.”

In the video, he also reminds students, faculty and anyone impacted by this tragedy that the university will continue to offer counseling services.
