Love Civil Suit starts Monday in Charlottesville
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Jury selection finished Monday night, April 25, in Charlottesville Circuit Court for a civil trial concerning the 2010 murder of Yeardley Love. Eleven people were selected made up by eight men and three women. Four will serve at alternates.
Open statements are expected to start Tuesday, April 26.
Sharon Love is looking to hold her daughter’s killer, George Huguely, accountable for her death.
The lawsuit seeks $29.5 million in compensatory damages, and another $1 million in punitive damages from Huguely.
Huguely and Love both played lacrosse for the University of Virginia, and had been an on-again-off-again couple.
She was found dead in her 14th Street apartment, and Huguely was arrested a short time later. He was convicted on second-degree murder charges in 20212, and is currently halfway through serving his 23-year prison sentence.
Matthew Green, Huguely’s attorney, says he expects his client to testify in-person for this civil case.
