CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - UVA sophomores Connor Shellenberger and Cole Kastner have been nominated for the Tewaaraton Award, which is presented to the most outstanding player in College Lacrosse.

The STAB alum, Shellenberger, currently leads the ACC in assists per game, and he’s second in points.

The 6-foot-7 Kastner is the point-man on the Cavaliers’ ride, and Project 39 leads the ACC in turnovers forced per game.

Three players have won the Tewaaraton Award at UVA: Chris Rotelli (2003), Matt Ward (2006) and Steele Stanwick (2011).

Syracuse is the only other program with three winners.

The Cavs and ‘Cuse will be squaring off this weekend in the Dome.

A victory by 6th ranked Virginia would clinch the ACC Regular Season Championship.

“This would be a big deal,” says head coach Lars Tiffany. “This would be a really big deal. To earn a win up in Syracuse, and be able to earn an ACC Championship. That would be such a big deal.”

UVA beat Syracuse 20-11 earlier this season at Klockner Stadium.

Saturday’s opening faceoff is scheduled for four o’clock in The Dome.
