CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -

As we spring into warmer weather, the Wildlife Center of Virginia has some tips for helping our native pollinators.

The center encourages everyone to plant plants native to the area. Team members say this will help the animals in Virginia’s ecosystem.

The center is giving out bingo cards to help identify what grows in our neck of the woods. If you plant something from the card, you can win a prize.

“We are introducing plants to areas, and native pollinators can sometimes have a hard time catching up, they don’t recognize those non native plants as food sources,” Alex Wehrung with the Wildlife Center of Virginia said. “So they don’t really benefit the environment in many ways other than looking pretty to humans.”
