CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The Early National Signing period kicked off on Wednesday, with a three-day window for high school football players to sign a National Letter of Intent with a college program.

The Cavaliers had ten signees on Day One.

Nine of the Ten are three-star prospects.

They include three receivers, and two linebackers.

Dual-threat quarterback Davis Lane, from Liberty Christian Adacemy, is the only signee from the commonwealth.

He is ranked as the Number-One quarterback in the state.

New Virginia head coach Tony Elliott says the incoming players are full of character, for honoring their commitments.

“They’re committed to the University of Virginia,” says Elliott. “They didn’t necessarily commit to a coach. I know that they had tremendous relationships with Bronco and his staff, but it just shows that came to Virginia because they fell in love with the University of Virginia, and being a part of the football program is just a piece of that.”

Current Cavaliers head coach Bronco Mendenhall says, “I’m so thankful for their commitment. I love their ability. They’re aligned with the University of Virginia, in terms of values, but also the ability to help the program move forward. In a very unique transition time, they’re provided a really nice sense of stability amongst really unique circumstances.”

The Cavaliers are scheduled to take on SMU in the Fenway Bowl in Boston on December 29th.
