Update on Harrisonburg police conducting death investigation
HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - The Harrisonburg Police Department is conducting a death investigation at an apartment on North High Street.
HPD says officers responded to a call of an unresponsive woman around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 24.
Lieutenant Chris Monahan says first responders determined that the woman was dead inside her home.
Monahan says HPD officers secured the scene and canvassed the area for any suspects, witnesses, or anything of evidentiary value. HPD Major Crimes Unit was called in to investigate the cause of death and searched the home.
HPD Forensic Evidence Team was called also in to process the scene for evidence.
The woman’s body has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke where an autopsy and toxicology examination will take place. At this time the cause of death is considered suspicious.
