Officials provide more details on body found near Waynesboro church

UPDATE (2/15/2021) — Officials are providing additional details after a body was found near Shiloh Baptist Church in Waynesboro on Saturday.

According to Captain David Shaw with the Waynesboro Police Department, the body was removed from the river and transferred to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, and no immediate signs of foul play were suspected at the time of recovery.

Officials say the body was identified as an adult male, and the next of kin is still pending notification.

Shaw says the body was discovered by a person fishing around 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.

WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV) - Police are investigating after a body was found near Shiloh Baptist Church in Waynesboro.

Police said someone found the body in the South River behind the church around 11 a.m. Saturday.

The cause of death is unknown at this point.

The body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
