CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Casey Morsell had a strong performance in UVA’s victory against Notre Dame on Wednesday night, as the sophomore set a season-high in points scored, and added a career-high in three-pointers made.
The performance was all the more impressive, considering Morsell had missed Virginia’s previous two games, while in quarantine following contact tracing.
Morsell was limited to 45 minutes per day at the practice facility, and had to work around the Cavaliers’ schedule, to avoid coming into contact with his teammates.
“Access to the gym was limited,” says Morsell. “For the amount of time I had in the gym, I had to take full advantage of it. I spent most of my time running, staying in shape, and just using the quarantine to my advantage.”
Morsell returned in time for the Cavaliers’ game against Notre Dame on Wednesday night.
The sophomore was almost perfect, hitting 6-of-7 shots from the field, including a career-high three 3-pointers.
Morsell played 24-minutes off the bench, and scored a season-high 15-points.
Senior Jay Huff says, “Coming off a ten-day quarantine, that’s really impressive for him to have the game that he did. He looked really comfortable, and he’s had a couple of good days of practice, but he was ready to go from the start.”
“I was fresh,” says Morsell. “My shoulder felt good. I just came out there relaxed, and confident, and ready to play.”
Head coach Tony Bennett adds, “I didn’t expect him to be in that rhythm, to go 3-for-3 from three. That’s really good, so good for him, because he had put the work in, there’s no question.”
Virginia will be back in action on Saturday at 12th-ranked Clemson.
Tip-off is set for six o’clock.
