Albemarle County man dies in crash on Route 250 Bypass

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The Charlottesville Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened Wednesday, Jan. 13 on the Route 250 Bypass near Locust Avenue at around 6 p.m.

Police say it appears a Hyundai Elantra was traveling on the Route 250 Bypass eastbound when it crossed the median and collided head-on with a Toyota Tacoma traveling westbound.

The driver of the Hyundai Elantra, 49-year-old Anthony Douglas Cureton of Albemarle County, was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center where he passed away a short time later.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma was not injured.

Police say a third vehicles was involved in the crash but details on the third car have been not provided. They did say the occupants of the third car were not injured.

A portion of the 250 Bypass was closed for four hours while the Charlottesville Police Department’s traffic and forensic units worked to reconstruct the crash scene and collect evidence.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the CPD Traffic Unit.
