Gas prices jump in first week of 2021

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - According to the American Automobile Association (AAA) Virginia, gas prices have risen 8 cents per gallon in the past week. The average price in the commonwealth Monday, January 11, is $2.19 a gallon.

According to GasBuddy.com the cheapest station in Virginia is priced at $1.79/g Monday, while the most expensive is $2.99/g, a difference of $1.20/g.

Gas prices in Virginia are 12.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago, and are 21.5 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

The national gas price average of $2.31/g is at its highest in 10 months, according to AAA. The national average price of gasoline has risen 4.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.31/g today.

The national average is up 14.5 cents per gallon from a month ago, and stands 27.4 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
