ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA is celebrating a big milestone after a successful year of adoptions.
The SPCA scored the highest number of adoptions in the history of the organization in 2020. A total of 3,758 furry friends found their forever homes.
Nearly 3,000 pets spent time in foster care and more than half of those in foster turned the temporary situation into a forever home.
“Our intake was over 4,500 I believe and of that number, half were at risk of euthanasia from neighboring shelters, so we’re really glad to be able to do that,” CASPCA Executive Director Angie Gunter said.
The shelter hopes to exceed that number of adoptions in the new year, especially when it comes to cats. Gunter says felines are at higher risk for euthanasia than dogs.
