VADOC reports 5 COVID-19 offender deaths at Augusta Correctional Center

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) — Wednesday, January 6, the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) reported five offenders have died due to the coronavirus at the Augusta Correctional Center.

VADOC also reports there are currently 149 active COVID-19 cases within offenders at the Augusta Correctional Center. Two additional offenders who tested positive for the coronavirus are currently in hospitals.

In total, VADOC’s COVID-19 data dashboard says there have been 584 positive COVID-19 cases within offenders at the Augusta Correctional Center. This number includes positive offenders who are onsite and in the hospital, as well as those who have been released or transferred in or out of the facility. Offender deaths and recovered cases are also included in this total.

The dashboard also reports 47 active staff cases at the facility, including employees and contractors.
