CULPEPER, Va. (WVIR) - Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) was recently awarded $4.8 million in federal Coronavirus Relief Funds. Those funds will be used to assist member-owners who have fallen behind on their electric bill payments from March 1, 2020 through October 31, 2020 due to an economic hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eligible member-owners were notified in December 2020 either by mail, email or phone to apply for the funding.
“When we determine who was eligible for the funding, we also were able to determine how much of the funding they were eligible for. So in our communications to those member-owners, we have let them know the amount that they can apply for,” REC Director of Communications & Public Relations Casey Hollins said.
The state’s relief funds can only be applied to the debt for actual electric service, not to fees, deposits or non-electric services provided by REC.
If you were notified of eligibility a reminder that the deadline to apply for REC Coronavirus Relief Funds is February 1, 2021.
The application can be found on the REC website at https://www.myrec.coop/covidhelp
