RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Virginia General Services announced the gates at Capitol Square have reopened with limited gate access.

Gates were closed on Jan. 6 amid the violence that occurred at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

The building itself has been closed to the public since the pandemic, so there was no change there.

Capitol Police monitored the incident in the nation’s Capitol. They did not disclose any information on additional units that would be sent.

“The City of Richmond is monitoring the status of ongoing unrest in our nation’s capital. Like other capital cities, we are also monitoring activity in and around Richmond. As always, please call 911 if you see any suspicious activity,” Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney said.

Virginia General Services tells residents to use the gate at 9th and Bank streets or those located near the Washington Building or the Patrick Henry Building.
