ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -Albemarle County Board of Supervisors got an update from the Virginia Department of Transportation Wednesday, January 6, on some major projects in the county.
Improvements for the southbound Exit 118 of Route 29 / Interstate-64E were mentioned, as well as alternatives for northbound Rt. 29 traffic to westbound I64 were discussed.
Another project brought up was the diverging diamond interchange at I-64 Exit 124. The next milestone will be right of way plan approval . The interchange will function like the interchange at Zion Crossroads with a goal of improving safety.
“When we break ground and the construction actually starts to happen it’s exciting, because these are improvements that are desperately needed to help traffic flow around the whole area,” Supervisor Ned Gallaway said.
Supervisors also heard about a roundabout at the intersection of Route 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) and Route 151 (Critzers Shop Road) in Afton, near the Nelson County line. The project aims to improve operations and safety at the busy intersection while managing traffic speeds and correcting geometric deficiencies that have been identified as contributing factors in crashes at the intersection.
