Montpelier hosts holiday food drive to support Orange Co. food pantry
ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -James Madison’s Montpelier is teaming up with the Orange County Love Outreach Food Pantry to help collect food and monetary donations this holiday season.
Folks can bring non-perishable food donations to the visitor center at Montpelier from now until December 21.
Montpelier President and CEO Roy Young says they had to cancel the holiday open house due to the coronavirus pandemic, but still wanted to do something to give back to the community.
“I think it’s important to help the community, because we are a member of the community. All of our employees live locally in the surrounding counties, and many of the people that are sick or hungry or have lost their jobs are people that we know. They are fellow members of the community,” Young said.
Young urges you go to the admissions desk after your donation and introduce yourself to enjoy the historic grounds at no charge. You can drop off your food or cash donations anytime from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday through Monday until December 21.
