PALMYRA, Va. (WVIR) - The Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to send a letter of support for an HSA I permit to allow for a new pharmaceutical marijuana facility.

YAE Wellness LLC has applied to build a 100,000 square foot facility behind Fork Union Volunteer Fire Department and Fluvanna Community Center. YAE Wellness is aiming to have the facility built and open for business by Spring of next year.

That letter now goes to the Virginia Board of Pharmacy for an approval decision in March. The board is accepting new applications after a permit for a similar facility in Staunton did not receive a requested extension back in June.

The state is set to allow one facility per health service area. HSA 1, which includes Fluvanna, Albemarle and Staunton, covers five health districts: Thomas Jefferson, Central Shenandoah, Lord Fairfax, Rappahannock Rapidan and Rappahannock.

Albemarle County Board of Supervisors also recently sent a letter of support for Holistic Virginia LLC to build and operate a medical cannabis facility on Avon Street.

This all comes after Governor Ralph Northam voiced his support for the legalization of marijuana for recreational use.
