CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -Normal is out this holiday season at the University of Virginia, and special is in. The pandemic will nix the normally big crowds that usually gather for the Lighting of the Lawn.
This year, the school will livestream the production for a special celebration of the season on Thursday, November 19 at 7 p.m.
This year’s theme is, Finding our Light, and for the first time, will feature lights on the north side of the Rotunda to include the entire Charlottesville community and anyone who can’t be on grounds this year.
The Lighting of the Lawn event started 20 years ago to foster unity after the terror attacks of 9/11.
