ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - Crews responded to a train fire near Proffit Road and Judge Lane in Albemarle County.

A photo and a video sent in by a viewer shows flames shooting from the train. A large number of fire crews were dispatched to the scene shortly after 9 p.m. Friday.

Fire officials tell NBC29 one of the three locomotive engines caught fire. It was extinguished quickly, the train was secured, and the other two engines continued on their way.

No one was hurt. Crews cleared the area by 10:45 p.m.

Train Fire Near Proffit Road

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA - At approximately 9:17 pm, on Friday, July 31, 2020, Stony Point Fire Department responded to a train fire on the railroad tracks near Proffit Road and Judge Lane. The responding unit arrived to find an engine fire on a locomotive and was able to extinguish the fire quickly.

There were no reported injuries.

The scene and tracks are now cleared.
