RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Capitol Square in Richmond will be closed for the holiday weekend.

This is because of past, and possibly future, civil unrest in the area.

“There have been instances during demonstrations that began peacefully but evolved into conflicts with law enforcement that pose a danger to public health and safety,” a release said.

Capitol Square will close Thursday at 7 p.m. and will not reopen until Monday, July 6 at 6 a.m.
