The Liberty Flames defeated Georgia Southern 23-16 in the Cure Bowl for LU’s first ever bowl game win on Saturday, Dec. 21st at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
Both the Eagles and Flames came into the match with an overall record of 7-5. GSU was a 5.5 favorite against Liberty.
Liberty running back Frankie Hickson picked up 120 yards rushing on 22 carries and quarterback Stephen Calvert went 16 of 35 passing for 270 yards and two touchdowns.
LU head coach Hugh Freeze got his 50th win of his career after starting the season with a back injury which led to staph infection.
