CHARLOTTESVILLE, V.A. (WVIR) - Kobe Jerome, the younger brother of former Virginia basketball star Ty Jerome, has been named one of three captains this season for the Blue Ridge School basketball team.
Jerome is a junior transfer from New York. He is a 6-foot-3 guard.
“I just really loved the culture of the team, coach Cade really believed in my game,” says Jerome. My main goal is to finish here, I want to win two more state championships and then go on to play division one."
He says choosing Blue Ridge had nothing to do with his brother, Ty, playing close to BRS at Virginia.
“It was really just because, honestly. It was the best fit for me.”
William Lee and Mike Gray were also named captains of the Blue Ridge team today.
Blue Ridge is the defending DII VISAA state champion. Blue Ridge has won the state title in three of the last five years.
This year’s team has several newcomers in addition to Jerome, including Charlottesville natives Jacob Rice and Derrick Jones. Jones has transferred from Albemarle HS. Rice transfers from Tandem Friends.
“They see the players that have been here and worn this uniform and they know they want to keep that going,” says head coach Cade Lemcke. “There’s some pressure.”
