ALBEMARLE COUNTY, V.A. (WVIR) - The Albemarle County Police Foundation is receiving a generous donation for its K-9 unit.

The 100+ Women Who Care Charlottesville raised $7,500 to cover the costs of training Officer Daxel. Group members meet four times a year to nominate a charity of their choice. Co-chair Nancy Markos says supporting the county’s police K-9 unit was a no-brainer.

“Learning about the police department losing a couple of their dogs, this was a perfect opportunity for us to help take care of the training for this dog, because we the members really want to make a difference for the people in the community, so we were happy to do that,” Markos said.

Albemarle County Police Chief Ron Lantz thanked the group for its donation Monday, November 18, and says the money will put to use immediately.
