CHARLOTTESVILLE, V.A. (WVIR) - Three lacrosse stars at St. Anne's Belfield have signed national letters of intent with division one schools to play in college.
On Thursday, Mason Meulenberg signed with Mount Saint Mary's, like to be a defenseman.
Claire Schotta signs with Virginia Tech, where she will be a midfielder.
Kate Elam signs with Pittsburgh, which will be a brand new start-up lacrosse program, competing in the ACC.
"It's a new start yes, but my coaches are amazing," says Elam. "They've started from the ground up before. Coach Emily started with a new program when she was in college so I have complete faith in them. Competitive conference like the ACC, I don't see what could go wrong. Just got to try your hardest."
"I really wanted to play in the ACC so that was a big component for me," says Schotta. "Freshman year I went on my first visit at Virginia Tech and I fell in love with the school. Competition, we're one of the best conferences in the country playing Duke, UNC, Virginia. I can't believe one day I'll be playing on Klockner because I grew up going to all the games."
Meulenberg says, “Just test myself. See if I can play with these guys. I think that’s the most exciting part of it.”
