The Grand Caverns in Grottoes got a spring cleaning Satuday. Members of the Virginia Regional National Speleological Society have taken care of the caves for decades.
Besides taking in the stunning structures, volunteers patched the walking trails, removed algae from the rock walls, and focused on restoring the cave's formations. “We feel like this is a great opportunity to give a little back to the caves and help conserve them, repair formations, and also give a little bit back to those that manage caves,” said Andrew Reeder with VRNSS.
The Grand Caverns' operator said the volunteers' work is a tremendous help. The site is open to visitors on the weekends right now. It'll be open seven days a week starting April 1.
