Hermann Mendez was born in Guatemala and studied medicine in El Salvador before migrating to the United States.
Dr. Mendez is chairman and professor of clinical pediatrics at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the New York City borough of the Bronx.
Dr. Mendez was among the first physicians to recognize pediatric AIDS and to research transmission of AIDS from mothers to their unborn babies. He now focuses on other childhood diseases, including asthma, the most frequent reasons youngsters are treated in hospital emergency rooms. Dr. Mendez also specializes in pediatric obesity and diabetes.
