For the first time ever Virginia and Virginia Tech will meet in basketball with both teams ranked in the AP Top 10.
No. 4 Virginia will host No. 9 Virginia Tech Tuesday night at 8pm in a game you can watch on NBC29.
Both teams have a record of 3-0 in the ACC. Virginia is 15-0 and off to its best start since 2014-15.
Virginia Tech is 14-1 and off to its best start since 1982-83.
Virginia Tech leads the ACC in 3-point shooting at 42.3 percent.
"Their ability to be able to stretch the floor with every position being able to shoot it," says UVa coach Tony Bennett. "How quickly they are able to get down the floor. Then you add how well they defend."
The two teams split games last year. Virginia won at VT 78-52 in January.
Virginia Tech beat UVA at JPJ in February 61-60 in overtime. It was Virginia's only ACC loss last season.
Coach Tony Bennett said Monday that Virginia Tech played much better defense in that second matchup at JPJ.
"They made some adjustments defensively and have stayed that way and continued. Both teams try to play good defense, try to be efficient offensively. They're really committed to playing together and crowding the lane and doing some things that are difficult and they have some really good players. They're all a year older and they're better. That's what's showing and they were very good last year and I think they're more mature this year and appear to be better this year."
Virginia opened as a 9.5 point favorite for Tuesday's game.
