Monroe Basketball Star Sam Brunelle to Undergo Foot Surgery, Out Indefinitely

Posted: Updated:

William Monroe High School basketball star Sam Brunelle will undergo foot surgery in the coming days to remove a bone in her fractured left foot.

Recovery time is 6-8 weeks which means she could miss the rest of her senior season.

"This set back does not define me and I’m going to do everything I can to get myself back in the court with my amazing team as soon as possible," Brunelle told NBC29 Wednesday.  "Monroe and the rest of Greene County and the Central Virginia area have been amazing to me these past four years and beyond and I’m not done yet. Thank you to everyone!"

Brunelle suffered the injury in the Daily Progress Holiday Classic game against Brooke Point on December 28th and hasn't played since.

Brunelle is William Monroe's all-time leading scorer with 2,236 points and has signed with Notre Dame to play in college.

William Monroe has a record of 9-2 this season.    Brunelle told her team on Wednesday about the need for surgery.

Brunelle says the decision to have surgery was not an easy one, but she felt it was better to get her foot fixed now, so it won't be a problem in college.
