Charlottesville Police Investigating Bomb Threat EmailsPosted: Updated:
Press Release from Charlottesville's Office of Communications:
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Businesses in the City of Charlottesville and surrounding areas have received emails, similar to those received throughout the nation, threatening to detonate a bomb in the recipients’ workplace, unless they transfer $20,000 into a Bitcoin account.
We have no evidence or reporting indicating the robo-email threats are credible. However, the Charlottesville Police Department will continue to work with local law enforcement partners in an attempt to ascertain the origins of the emails.
If you are the recipient of a threatening robo-email, you are encouraged to contact the Charlottesville Police Department at (434) 977-9041 (non-emergency line).
