ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

Developers say the sky's the limit when it comes to the future of the Rio Road and Route 29 area of Albemarle County.

On Thursday, November 29, people came out for a community advisory committee meeting for Places29-Rio.

Members heard from Castle Development Partners on the proposed 300 new apartments to be built on the vacant land right next to Albemarle Square Shopping Center.

The goal is to create a walkable community, where people aren't dependent on their cars to get where they need to go.

"It's very complicated,” Andy McGinty of Castle Development Partners said. “It's challenging. There's a lot of moving parts. There's a lot of traffic infrastructure improvements that need to happen, but the potential for Albemarle County is tremendous."

Members also discussed transportation issues in the area, with some neighbors voicing concerns regarding the additional traffic that new development could bring.

The committee's next meeting is set for January 24 inside the Albemarle County Office Building.
