ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

A business in the valley has made a huge donation to feed its hungry neighbors.

Perdue Farms has donated two truckloads of chicken to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, which equates to about 70,000 pounds of frozen chicken.

The company is also challenging community members to match a $25,000 donation to the food bank's Farm Fresh Fund.

Perdue employees spent Tuesday, November 27, sorting and packing food at the food bank.

"Perdue has been a company that's very committed to community outreach and to supporting the individuals that live in the communities where we have our locations,” Jim Dirks, the Perdue human resources manager, said. “It's the right thing to do."

Perdue has donated $100,000 and 2.6 million pounds of food during its 18-year partnership with the food bank.
