The Center broke ground on a new facility at Belvedere on Friday.
The new state-of-the-art facility should open in the spring of 2020.
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -
The Center, formerly known as The Senior Center Inc., broke ground on a brand new facility that has been a long time in the making on Friday.
Management gathered at the site along Belvedere Boulevard to launch the construction of a building that will house much more than the current one.
The new and improved Center comes with a new workout facility and auditorium to seat 400 people. It will also have a medical clinic and Greenberry’s Coffee Shop.
“The Center does continue to focus on the well-being of older adults, but The Center at Belvedere’s vision is to also be welcoming to all people,” said Executive Director of The Center Peter Thomas. “In these times, in order to build bridges to build a healthier community, we need to hear from the wisdom and experience of our elders.”
The new 60,000 square foot facility will cost about $24 million and open in the spring of 2020.
