Governor Ralph Northam is pushing for congressional redistricting in Virginia.
Northam made a stop in downtown Charlottesville on Sunday to encourage voter turnout. A plan to redraw the district lines in Virginia has already been put in the hands of the Supreme Court through an appeal.
Northam said he will continue to work for that redistricting.
“I think the message for the people is that we need to stop the gerrymandering,” Northam said. “The people around Virginia need to pick their representatives rather than politicians picking their voters and that’s why I’ve been a proponent and an advocate for nonpartisan redistricting and as we get closer to 2021, that’s what I’ll be pushing for.”
Northam said that right now, he is focusing on Tuesday’s election.
