VERONA, Va. (WVIR) -

Many needy families will be eating well this Thanksgiving thanks to generous donations.

Martin’s Foods stores donated hundreds of turkeys on Thursday to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Martin’s is hoping that the 500 turkeys will help make a dent in hunger this Thanksgiving.

Associates from Martin’s in Harrisonburg spent the morning in Verona organizing and restocking shelves in advance of the holiday season. This is the 95th year of the turkey donation that is centered around giving back to the community.

The manager of the Harrisonburg Martin’s, Charles Carrington, said he feels honored to be a part of such a good cause.

“This is truly a blessing to be involved with a company that thinks about the local community and cares about our people and it’s all about giving back,” Carrington said.

Martin’s Foods stores will make history this year by donating almost 10,000 turkeys in one day to partner food banks. The turkeys will be distributed to partner food banks in the coming weeks for people to pick up.

The food banks are always accepting donations, especially as the holiday season approaches.
