ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -

Albemarle County police are searching for a man they say opened fire in the Barracks West Apartment complex Tuesday night.

Police were called out to the 400 block of Burgoyne Road for a report of shots fired around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, October 30. They found a 19-year-old man inside an apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center in stable condition.

Officers say at least three shots were fired, striking several cars in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

Witnesses say the gunman got away before police arrived on the scene.

"We had officers not only here at the scene but also checking the complex, and so at this point we don't think there’s any other danger. Obviously, if someone sees something… if you see something, say something. But at this point we think that the suspect got away," said Albemarle County Police Sgt. Sean Hackney.

Police describe the suspect as a thin, tall, black male wearing a mask and dark clothing. Additionally, it is believe the shooting was an isolated incident.

10/31/2018 Release from the Albemarle County Police Department:

On October 30, 2018, at approximately 10:40 p.m., officers from the Albemarle Police Department were dispatched to Burgoyne Road in the Barracks West Apartments for reports of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers located a 19-year-old male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and were able to provide first aid treatment until rescue units could render care. The victim was transported to UVA Hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.

The suspect involved in the shooting fled the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival. The suspect is described as a thin, tall, black male wearing a mask and dark clothing.

Based on information obtained during the criminal investigation, the Albemarle County Police is treating this shooting as an isolated incident.
